SPATIAL DESIGN FOR LIVING
Location: Ma On Shan

Layout: 1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, 1 Kitchen, 1 Living & Dining Area & Home Office Area
Budget: Approx. HKD 360,000 (including materials and labor)
Construction Period: Approx. 4 months
The Brief:
With several window ledges throughout the unit, the original layout made the space difficult to use efficiently and affected the flow of daily living. Designed for a young couple seeking a more functional and comfortable home, this apartment was reconfigured through professional interior design and careful space planning to make better use of the window areas while combining work, relaxation, and storage in one compact home.

Spatial Design Strategies
Window ledges are often one of the most difficult areas to use well in a small flat. The designer used window ledge integration as the key concept, turning separate ledges into a built-in furniture system that reshapes the living and work areas.
The living room is built around a continuous window-side platform. By extending the ledge into seating and pairing it with a custom sofa and low table, the designer created a relaxed and layered lounge area. The platform also provides storage, improving the practicality of the home.
Light wood finishes and soft beige floor tiles create a warm Nordic-Japanese style. Furniture was kept close to window level to maintain open sightlines and maximise natural light, helping the space feel bright and airy.
