SPATIAL DESIGN FOR LIVING
District: Kowloon City, Hong Kong
Square Footage: 1100 square feet
Property Features: 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 1 kitchen and 1 Living & Dining
Remodeling Budget: Approximately HKD 1,400,000 (including materials and labor)
Construction Time: Approximately 5 months
The Brief:
This 1100 sq. ft. residence was redesigned because its original interior style no longer matched the homeowner’s lifestyle, comfort needs, or aesthetic expectations. The project focuses on residential interior design, space planning, and lifestyle-driven living, creating a home that supports reading, quiet routines, and everyday comfort. Through refined layout planning, material selection, and atmosphere-building, the design achieves a more elegant, practical, and cohesive modern living environment.

Spatial Design Strategies
Inspired by the color proportions of traditional facades in Suzhou and Hangzhou, the design translates classical Chinese aesthetics into a contemporary residential interior language. A black-and-white palette creates a calm visual base, allowing Scandinavian furniture and the homeowner’s calligraphy and artwork to coexist in a balanced and cohesive way. This approach strengthens the home’s cultural character while maintaining a clean modern identity. Drawing from the Chinese concept of borrowing scenery, the design introduces windowsills, extended sightlines, and natural light to improve openness, visual continuity, and spatial depth. These strategies enhance comfort throughout the day and support reading, stretching, resting, and quiet daily rituals. The result is a modern Chinese-inspired home that balances aesthetics, functionality, and lifestyle needs within a refined residential space.
